Fixes and Improvements for May 12th

May 12th, 2022

Today’s release adds more options to the Collection Bin and fixes a video-player bug, so you can play videos frame by frame.

What’s New

  • In the Collection Bin, you can now hover over a file and select either “View” or “Remove” from the options menu on the right.

Fixes and Improvements

  • The left and right arrow keys are now working when you watch videos in “Auto Advance” mode. These keyboard shortcuts let you go back and forward by one frame.
  • In preparation for future improvements, we removed some of the user counts from the left side of the Users page. Administrators can still access user counts by selecting a filter on the left and viewing the corresponding number on the right (next to the “Add Users” button).

Fixes and Improvements for May 3rd

May 3rd, 2022

This week’s release adds more help text and Knowledge Base links throughout Shift, so you can quickly find answers to some common questions. We also fixed bugs affecting specific Review Link scenarios.

What’s New

  • When you share a Review Link with a distribution list, we let you know if your settings require the removal of certain people from your list. For example, if you chose “Workspace users” as your Access setting, you cannot share the link with any non-workspace users on your list. Our new messaging aims to make these kinds of restrictions clearer.
  • We also added new messaging to the Insights page. If you are editing a Review Link via Insights, we now show you how to add files to your link. This workflow changed last month, when we introduced the new Sent Links tab for faster link editing.

Fixes

  • This release fixes a bug with on-demand watermarking. Before, a video might indicate that watermarking was still in progress when the video was in fact ready for viewing. Now, the video updates automatically, so you can start watching without reloading the page.
  • When you right-click on a folder, the options menu no longer overlaps with file thumbnails in list view.
  • Managers and users can now share a public Review Link with a distribution list that contains non-workspace emails. Before, this option was only working properly for administrators.
  • Lastly, this release fixes a bug affecting playback of password-protected videos sent from projects with an email or custom-text watermark. Now, if the link expires and you choose to renew it, your link recipients can still watch the videos, even if they don’t have a Shift account.

Share Window Improvements in Shift & New Features in Shift GO

April 14th, 2022

This week’s release makes it easier to watermark your Review Links and introduces the User Profile page in our mobile app.

What’s New

  • You can now access your User Profile on the Shift GO app for iOS and Android. First, tap the gear icon in the bottom right. Then, select “My Profile” to upload your profile picture or update your user information.
  • We freshened up the menus, fonts, and background colors throughout Shift GO for smoother navigation and greater readability.

 Fixes and Improvements

  • We made improvements to the Watermarking tab located in the Share window’s Advanced section. Now, you can select any watermark template, and we’ll let you know if the template requires any changes to your access setting.
  • Dates are now displayed in a more user-friendly format throughout Shift. For example, the Sent Links tab now says a Review Link expired on “Apr 7, 2022” instead of “4/7/2022.”
  • Your default Review Link message, which is set in Administration, now appears in the Share window under “Message.” We fixed a bug affecting this feature in certain cases.
  • When you edit a Review Link’s title or expiration date in the Sent Links tab, the updated information is now displayed in Insights as well.
  • When you add more recipients to an email-watermarked link, the checkbox “Only send link to new recipients” now works, no matter where you enter new recipients. Previous recipients will no longer receive an additional email.

Control Your Playback Speed

April 7th, 2022

Today's release delivers greater control over your playback speed and provides clearer messaging around empty or expired Review Links.

What's New

  • More playback-speed options are now available in the video player. When you click the 1x button in the toolbar, you can choose to speed up or slow down your video, with options ranging from .25x to 2x the normal speed.
  • We updated the Sent Links tab to clearly show when a Review Link has expired. You'll now see an Expired label under the link name, followed by the date and time the link expired.
  • When you remove the files from a Review Link, the link now includes a message to make it clear the link is empty. If some files were removed from the link but others remain, then we point you to a review gallery with the remaining files.

Fixes

  • When you add recipients to an existing Review Link via the Share window, the new recipients are now included in the History tab.
  • This release fixes a bug that opened the Help chat window when you logged out of Shift.

Fixes and Improvements for March 31st

March 31st, 2022

This week's release addresses interface improvements in Spotlight and Projects and includes minor cleanup work in our new Sharing Window and Adobe Extension.

  • In the Spotlight template builder, clicking the gear icon in the top left now opens the properties panel, so you can quickly view or edit your page settings. We also updated the text color in our Spotlight help menu to make it easier to read.
  • In Projects, we fixed a bug that was cutting off a file's options menu.
  • This release also addresses an issue with blank file thumbnails. In the event a thumbnail fails to load, we now display a placeholder icon that indicates the file type. This placeholder is also displayed for images and documents until the actual thumbnail is generated and ready to view.
  • We made improvements to the file path displayed along the top of the page, making it easier to navigate deep into projects with many levels of subfolders.
  • When you change your access setting from “Public” to “Workspace users” on a Review Link with email watermarking, we now remove the non-workspace users from the link.
  • We fixed a bug that prevented the creation of project-based playlists.
  • We have restored the ability to create public and password-protected Review Links from a project with forensic watermarking enabled. You just need to specify link recipients in the Recipients field.
  • Lastly, this release fixes an issue with our Adobe extension, so you can search the Shift panel for the project or folder where you want to upload assets.

Upgraded Sharing and Link Editing

March 22nd, 2022

Today’s release brings key enhancements to Review Links, including on-demand watermarking, increased support for folder sharing, and a faster way to edit your links. We’ve also improved our video player controls.

What's New

  • Simplified Sharing Window: We’ve redesigned the link sharing window and separated it into a "simple" and "advanced" view. This makes sharing easier and faster for most review scenarios while still giving access to additional settings in the advanced view. The new sharing window also includes a History tab that shows a list of all recipients of this link.

  • On-Demand Watermarking: If your account has SafeStream enabled, you will now be able to watermark just the files in the review link. Watermarks will automatically be applied to all files including those in folders and sub-folders. This is perfect for sending one-off links with additional security. If you would like to try this feature, contact your customer success manager.

  • Improved Folder Support: You can now share any combination of folders and files in a single Review Link. To start sharing, hold the Command key (on a Mac) or the Control key (on a PC) and click on all the folders and files you want to share. Then, click the paper airplane icon to open the Share window. You can also use the Collection Bin to gather all the items you want to share in one link.

  • New “Sent Links” tab for faster link editing: You can now edit your Review Links without ever leaving Projects. From any project, click the arrow icon in the top left (next to the search bar) to open the left drawer. This contains your Project tree in the first tab and the new Sent Links tab in the second. Here, you can search for, expire, or edit your existing links. To add more content to a link, just click on the link and then drag files from your project into the Sent Links tab.

  • Video player improvements: Our updated video player includes the option to play a video or audio file on a loop or auto-advance to the next one. We’ve also added buttons for going back or forward by five seconds, introduced a menu for adjusting your playback speed, and replaced the audio toggle with a volume slider.

Bulk download files from your browser

March 3rd, 2022

In this release, we introduced the option to bulk download files from your browser and made fixes to the Information and Metadata tabs in the right drawer.

What’s New

  • You can bulk download files from Projects without leaving your web browser. Before, bulk downloading was only offered in the Shift desktop app. Now, this feature is available in both our desktop and browser apps.
  • Clicking your profile icon in the bottom left corner now opens a menu with additional options. You can access your Profile, the support articles in our Knowledge Base, and the logout button, or click “What’s New” to see the latest features and updates from Shift.

Fixes and Improvements

  • You can now upload a brand logo to display in your review links and presentations. This option has been available for accounts with access to Spotlight, and now it’s available for all accounts. Visit the Branding tab in Administration to upload your logo.
  • Shift now displays metadata for the audio files you upload to Projects. You can access metadata by opening the right drawer and going to the second tab.
  • User names are now displayed properly in the “Uploaded by” section in list view and in the Information tab on the right.
  • We’ve addressed a visual defect with misaligned arrows in the options menu and removed an extraneous line of text from the SafeStream section on the project settings page.
  • Lastly, this release fixes a bug with applying certain tags to assets.

Better Viewing and Sharing in Shift GO

February 24th, 2022

What’s New

Shift GO, our mobile app for iOS and Android, has been upgraded with layout improvements, a better review experience, and even more sharing options:

  • The app now has a more compact layout that fits more of your projects on the screen at once. You can also view twice as many feed cards on the screen without needing to scroll down.
  • You’ll notice more options menus throughout the app. Just tap the three-dots icon to reveal additional options, like sharing folders and copying project URLs to share with your team.
  • When you review a link with multiple files, the review gallery now includes sender and audience information at the top of the screen, in addition to the link title and description. The gallery also displays more thumbnails at once.
  • Finally, we’ve made some additional design updates for a more consistent experience between our desktop and mobile apps.

You can download Shift GO here.
