New: Idle Timeout Feature

We're always looking for ways to help our customers spend their investments cost-effectively. During the past few months, we have been rolling out changes that allow us to better monitor learner (in)activity and terminate track environments after a (configurable) idle timeout. We've gotten great responses from those who have tried it so far, and the feature is now generally available.

The new Idle timeout feature will trigger a warning message to learners who sit idle through a session without interacting with your content. If they don't confirm they're still there within 2 minutes, the environment will be terminated automatically.

The idle timeout is configurable per track. For example, let's say that you've set the idle timeout on your track to 300 seconds (5 minutes). If the user has been idle for 3 minutes, a warning message will pop up and ask the learner to respond. If after 2 minutes there's no response, the environment will be terminated. So the user will always have two minutes to react.

In the case of live events, it may not be desirable to have tracks time out after a short idle time (for example while you’re presenting at a workshop). In those cases, we recommend not setting an idle_timeout value, or duplicating the track without an idle_timeout value.

To learn more about the idle timeout functionality and how to configure it, check out this Instruqt Docs and search for Idle timeout.

⏰ 1 Time Limit to Rule Them All

We’ve updated our maximum time settings. Now you can set the maximum time allowed per track in the track details. No more need for individual times per challenge.

You can find this setting on track details page (the page where you set a tracks name and description)

For those running tracks on the Instruqt arcades, we still use the time limit per challenge

Happy making!

Launching LTI support: Seamlessly Integrate Instruqt into your LMS

Do you use an LMS? Great news, you can now integrate Instruqt with your LMS using LTI!

LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) is a standard that allows educational platforms to launch and embed tools and content. This means it is now even easier to embed Instruqt tracks directly into your LMS!

Here's how it works:

  1. Log in to your Instruqt account and go to the track you want to embed in your LMS.
  2. Go to the track's embed configuration page, and copy the LTI Configuration details.
  3. Log in to your LMS and create a new lesson.
  4. Paste the LTI configration into the lesson.
  5. Save and publish the lesson.

Your students will now be able to access the Instruqt track directly from your LMS! And when they complete the track, their progress will be automatically tracked in your LMS.

Read more on our docs page. Got questions or feedback? We'd love to hear from you.

What You See Is What You Get

Introducing our improved editor UI. You can now style your track descriptions, note screens and assignments all with the click of a button. No more needing to check cheat sheets or be a markdown magician.

And the magic doesn’t stop there…

- The editor now comes with more space and the ability to write in full screen mode.

- And best of all, a preview that shows you what your content looks like for your end users.

We hope you enjoy the new UI editor! As always, please let us know if you have any feedback or questions.

New: Runtime Variables

It's now possible to craft custom commands, hostnames and more in the challenge assignment's markdown. This can eliminate kludgy "replace " substitutions.

For more information, please refer to our docs.

More control over your users' journey

Are you tired of your users getting to the end of an embedded track and then not knowing what to do next?

Well no more. Now you can add a custom button to the last screen of your embedded tracks to redirect a user wherever you want them to go.

Here’s how:

  • Head to your tracks details and select the embedding option on the right hand side.
  • Now select the “Add custom button” option.
  • Give your button some copy so users know where it will take them.
  • Then add your url.
  • Select how you want the link to open
  • Your embed and kiosk embed snippets will be updated automatically. Copy the new code and embed to your hearts content.

This improvement also contains:

  • The progress section is now available on the finish screen
  • The restart button is now located in the progress section

Watch this space

We plan to expand on this topic and bring you greater controls on how you customise your tracks embed and non embed. So share any feedback or questions you have and happy creating!
