Try the Stake elevation feature to keep your grading on target

The Stake elevation feature in Emlid Flow is now available with Pro, Pro Individual, and Business plans. It helps you check the elevation during grading and verify the finished area against the target elevation, without using a surface file or staking out individual points or lines.

This workflow helps you

  • During grading: use real-time feedback to guide where to add or remove material to reach the target elevation.
  • After grading: walk around the graded area to confirm that it meets the required elevation and identify spots that need rework.

To check whether an area is on grade

  1. Tap the elevation value on the Survey screen, enter the Design height and Vertical tolerance for the job, and start stakeout.
  2. Move around the area and watch the color-coded cut/fill feedback: red means cut, gray means fill, and green means you’re within the specified tolerance.

You can now easily identify spots that need further work and check whether an area is on grade on the construction site. Learn more in the Checking elevation guide.

Improved CAD files support in Emlid Flow and Flow 360

Updates to Emlid Flow and Emlid Flow 360 now make working with CAD drawings even smoother.

DWG support

Emlid Flow and Flow 360 now support DWG files, so you can import your drawings directly without converting them to DXF or requesting another format or asking for drawings in another format.

100 MB limit for CAD files

With the new 100 MB limit, you can import more detailed drawings and cover larger sites without extra steps, like splitting large drawings into several files or remove some elements. Learn more in the Working with CAD drawings guide.

Improved CAD drawing processing

We’ve also implement fixes for better viewing or staking out CAD drawings:

  • If some objects fall outside the bounds of the selected coordinate system, Emlid Flow will still display the drawing and warn you about the affected objects.
  • Block references inserted at the origin (0,0) are now exploded into individual objects so that they can be staked out normally.

To get the latest improvements, don’t forget to update Emlid Flow to 15.11. In Emlid Flow 360, refresh the page or clear your browser cache if you don’t see the changes right away.

Use Emlid Corrections with Reach RX and RX2 in PIX4Dcatch

You can now use Emlid Corrections with Reach RX or Reach RX2 directly in PIX4Dcatch for accurately geotagged 3D scans. There’s no need to configure a separate RTK network and manually enter addresses, ports, credentials, or mountpoints.

To start using Emlid Corrections in PIX4Dcatch:

  1. Activate Emlid Corrections in Emlid Flow.
  2. Connect your Reach RX or RX2 to PIX4Dcatch via Bluetooth.
  3. In RTK device settings, create a new RTK profile.
  4. For RTK rover, select your Reach RX or RX2 rover.
  5. For NTRIP, PIX4Dcatch will automatically detect Emlid Corrections and configure the connection.

PIX4Dcatch receives centimeter-accurate positioning from Reach while you scan, giving you accurately geotagged 3D scans ready for processing in PIX4Dcloud or PIX4Dmatic.

Reach RS4 and RS4 Pro now receive Emlid Corrections via built-in LTE modem

Reach RS4 and RS4 Pro can now receive Emlid Corrections directly through the receiver’s internet connection, in addition to the Bluetooth connection with the Emlid Flow app.

For all the supported models, Emlid Corrections are delivered through Emlid Flow, so your phone or tablet needs an internet connection and has to stay connected to Reach via Bluetooth. Now, on Reach RS4 or RS4 Pro, you can insert a SIM card into your Reach RS4 or RS4 Pro and use the built-in LTE modem to get corrections over the receiver’s own internet connection.

Receiving corrections directly on Reach gives you more flexibility in how you set up your equipment and organize fieldwork:

  • Build a self-contained field setup. Insert a SIM card into Reach and let the receiver use its own internet connection for corrections. The field team can simply connect to the rover and start working without relying on internet access from their phones or tablets. This is especially useful for teams using a mix of personal and company devices, where reliable mobile internet access isn’t always available.
  • Simplify base setup. When configuring the position of a Reach RS4 or RS4 Pro base using the Average FIX coordinates entry method, the receiver can use its own internet connection instead of relying on the mobile device running Emlid Flow.

Explore a step-by-step workflow for setting up Emlid Corrections using Reach’s internet connection.

Improved CAD files handling in Emlid Flow and Flow 360

Emlid Flow 360 and Emlid Flow on iOS and Android now use the same CAD processing engine, bringing more consistent behavior across all platforms.

The new engine also brings several improvements when working with CAD drawings:

  • Better stability with large and complex drawings, including smoother navigation when multiple drawings are enabled.
  • More consistent layer handling—hidden and frozen layers are now properly excluded from the drawing.
  • Improved support for CAD drawing elements, including block attribute text, Cyrillic layer and block names, and multi-line text.
  • More precise rendering of small drawing details.

To try the updated CAD processing, update Emlid Flow to version 15.5. For Emlid Flow 360, refresh the page or clear your browser cache to make sure you’re using the latest version.

The Reach RX now supports streaming orthometric heights to GIS apps

Starting with Reach RX firmware 2.11 and Emlid Flow 15.2, Reach RX supports orthometric height output. You can now stream NMEA data with elevations referenced to mean sea level directly to ArcGIS Field Maps and other third-party applications that don’t support geoid corrections.

This is especially useful for construction, utility, municipal, and surveying workflows that require orthometric heights. You can collect centimeter-accurate positions with the elevations required by your GIS project, without converting ellipsoidal heights afterward.

To set it up, enable orthometric height output in Emlid Flow and select the required vertical datum. Then, in Field Maps Designer, configure your web map by adding a feature layer with Z-values enabled. Once the Reach RX is connected to ArcGIS Field Maps, the orthometric height will be recorded for each collected object.

For setup details, see the news about orthometric height output with Reach RX2.

Use Mobile location to navigate projects

Starting with Emlid Flow 15.2, you can use Mobile location to navigate projects using your mobile phone’s location data, without connecting to your Reach receiver. The feature is available for the Pro, Pro Individual, or Business plans.

It's especially useful when working as a team. While your co-worker uses the receiver for surveying, you can still open the same project, navigate around the job site, and find specific mapped objects, such as pipes, manholes, or utility elements for inspection or planning.

Mobile location displays your approximate position on the project map, with a typical accuracy of 1–3 m under good outdoor conditions and Wi-fi enabled.

opened-project

To get started with Mobile location:

  1. Enable Wi-Fi on your mobile device and keep it enabled even when you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Enable Mobile location in Profile > Settings > App settings.
  3. Allow Emlid Flow to access your device’s precise location when prompted.
  4. Go to the Receivers tab and select Mobile location.

Once enabled, your phone’s position is displayed on the project map, so you can navigate even when a receiver isn’t available. Learn more in the Navigate in the field using phone location guide.

Color coding helps you distinguish feature types at a glance and make large datasets easier to navigate in both the field and the office. Assign colors to survey codes when creating or editing, as well as importing code libraries in Emlid Flow 360.

Adding colors to existing libraries

  1. Open your existing code library or create a new one.
  2. Create a new code, or edit an existing code, and then select a color.
  3. Choose a color using the color picker or by entering its HEX code.
    edit-color

Preparing a code library with colors for import

You can now import code libraries with colors and other attributes using CSV files:

  1. Make sure your custom code library specifies colors using HEX codes.
  2. In Emlid Flow 360, import your code library in CSV format.
    click-import

After that, you can apply the code library to your project immediately or later in Emlid Flow.

Using codes in Emlid Flow

The code library automatically syncs to Emlid Flow through your Emlid account, making color-coded survey codes available for geometry collection and during stakeout.

Learn more from the Manage code libraries guide.
