User Management Improvements

July 28, 2022

This week’s release is focused on improving how administrators can edit a user's access to projects and features. The Edit User experience has been redesigned into one, easy-to-use window, where you can now control a user’s access to Spotlight. Here is an overview of the changes:

What’s New

  • We redesigned the Edit User window in Administration. Now, you can find user information (such as a user’s type and default role) on the left, and you can view and edit project assignments on the right. Access the Edit User window from the Users page by clicking the three-dots button at the end of a user's row.
  • The updated Edit User window also includes an all-new Feature Access section, where administrators can control a user’s access to Spotlight. When the Spotlight toggle is turned off, a user cannot access the Spotlight page in MediaSilo or create and customize templates. This toggle is also available in the Add Users window.
  • We added clearer messaging to the Add Users workflow. When you invite new users, we now inform you if your user limit has been reached.
  • The Usage tab in Administration now shows both your current storage and your average storage (month to date).

Fixes and Improvements for July 14th

July 14, 2022

This week’s release includes improvements to the watermark editor and bug fixes. We also upgraded the review experience in MediaSilo Go, our mobile app for iOS and Android. Here is an overview of the changes:

What’s New

  • We redesigned the review page in our mobile app to create a better viewing experience. Download and approval buttons are now displayed along the bottom of the screen. Tap the speech bubble to show or hide comments, so you can join the conversation or focus on the content you are watching. Additional options, including “Show Info,” are tucked into the options menu in the top right.

Fixes and Improvements

  • We fixed a bug in the project tree that crashed the app whenever you clicked the options menu next to a project name.
  • In the Administration section, you can now delete multiple users at once. Before, when you selected “Delete users” from the Actions menu, the action was unsuccessful.
  • We fixed a bug in Administration that redirected you to Projects after saving certain changes.
  • When you download a file from the MediaSilo desktop app, the download window now provides an accurate estimate of how long the download will take.
  • In the watermark template editor, using the text-align tools no longer results in a watermark that is outside the frame. Also, adding a new watermark now places it next to the original watermark, not on top of it.
  • Lastly, we freshened up the watermark preview with a new sample video.

We’ve got a new name! Say hello to MediaSilo.

July 11, 2022

We are very excited to be bringing back the MediaSilo brand, and the product previously known as Shift will be known as MediaSilo moving forward. Having the company AND product named Shift has led to some confusion and questions in the market. Changing the Shift product brand to MediaSilo allows us to better communicate who we are, streamline our product offerings, and tap into the trust and respect the MediaSilo name has represented for years.

The only immediate changes in the product are the logo and name. We’ll continue improving the interface and user experience, but you won’t be met with a completely new experience the next time you log in.

Fixes and Improvements for June 30th

June 30, 2022

This week, we released some minor design updates and resolved bugs impacting different parts of the app. Here is an overview of the changes:

  • Search results are now loading properly whenever you use the search bar.
  • When you tag a file, the tag now appears right away, without needing to reload the page.
  • If you’re viewing a public Review Link without logging into Shift, we no longer include a link to the Feed at the top of the page.
  • Background colors in the “Manage Project Team” window are now consistent with other windows throughout the app.
  • The “Copy URL” feature is now working for projects, folders, and assets. Before, pasting and going to the URL would redirect you to the Projects home page, instead of the correct project, folder, or asset. (“Copy URL” is available in the Advanced menu when you right-click on a thumbnail.)
  • In list view, you can no longer drag a versioned asset onto a non-versioned asset. You can only create a new version by dragging a non-versioned asset onto another non-versioned asset or by dragging a non-versioned asset onto a versioned asset.
  • If a document has a thumbnail image, we now display it in the Collection Bin, instead of showing a generic document icon.
  • When you add an email watermark to a public Review Link, the link URL is no longer copied automatically to your clipboard. In this workflow, you would share the link using the “Send Link” button, so there is no need to copy the link URL.
  • When you sort folders by Title, folders that begin with lowercase letters are no longer sorted separately from folders that begin with uppercase letters.
  • Shift accounts that migrated from Wiredrive now show the correct number of users, instead of showing one more user than the actual count.

Better Ways to Manage Your Projects

June 21, 2022

Today’s release makes it easier to edit your project settings and add users to projects. We introduced a new Edit Project window that puts all your project settings in one easy-to-find place, and we updated the Team tab to make adding and removing users more efficient.

What’s New

  • When you’re in a project, click the gear icon next to the project name to open the Edit Project window. Here, you can access all your project settings, including your project title and any lifecycle policy or watermark settings.
  • To build your project team, open the drawer on the right side of the page. The first tab — the Team tab — is now available whether you’re inside a project or on the Projects home page. Add users by clicking the blue button at the top of the tab, or click the options menu next to a user’s name to edit their role or remove them from a project altogether.
  • You can make changes to your project without ever leaving the Projects home page. Just click the three-dots button on a project thumbnail and select either “Manage Team” or “Edit Project.”

Fixes

  • If you’re in Administration and you reload the page, you now stay in Administration instead of getting redirected to Projects.
  • We resolved a visual defect with the “X” button you click to close in-app messages from Shift.

Redesigned Watermark Editor and Support for SMTP Relay

June 2nd, 2022

This week, we upgraded the watermark editor for creating and editing watermark templates. We also released a new feature that lets you send select Shift emails using your own SMTP server.

What's New

  • The watermark editor has a more user-friendly layout and a new look that matches the dark theme of the app. When you create a new watermark template, the watermark editor now defaults to the commonly used “email” watermark, though all your customization options are still available. We also added a new color picker that lets you choose your watermark color.
  • Shift now supports SMTP relay, so you can send Review Link emails using your own email server. To get started, go to the Settings tab in Administration and click on the new “Email” section.

Fixes

  • When you update a Spotlight or Presentation’s expiration date, the correct date is displayed in list view on the Spotlight home page, without any need to reload the page.

Sharing Improvements in Shift GO

May 26th, 2022

Today's release revamps the sharing experience in our mobile app. For the browser and desktop versions of Shift, we fixed Spotlight bugs and made improvements to the Share window, so it's easier to add recipients and control access to your Review Links.

What’s New

  • We updated the Share feature in the Shift GO mobile app to better align with the look and functionality of the desktop experience. Open a project and tap the paper-airplane icon in the bottom right to start sharing.

Fixes and Improvements

  • When you send a Review Link to workspace users, the checkbox next to "Only send link to new recipients" is now unchecked by default. This way, recipients will receive your link, and you only need to click this checkbox when adding new recipients.
  • The Recipients field in the Share window now expands to contain more names and email addresses.
  • When you edit a Review Link by adding an email watermark or restricting access to workspace users, we now clear out the Recipients field, so you can specify who gets access to your link.
  • If you access the Share window on a smaller screen, you can now scroll down to view the entire expiration-date calendar and save your changes.
  • In the Review Link information window, long titles no longer overlap with the “X” button.
  • If you have access to a file in Projects, you can now export the comments visible in Review Mode. Before, the export option was only available to administrators.
  • When you click the three-dots button on a folder in Projects, “Add to Bin” is now listed in the options menu. Before, this option only appeared if you right-clicked on a folder.
  • The right-side drawer in Insights is now scrollable, so your analytics are never cut off.
  • The “Tabs” element in Spotlight no longer reverts to three tabs if you are only using one or two tabs.
  • When you search for a folder in a Spotlight gallery, the folder and its contents are now displayed properly.
  • This release also fixes a bug affecting certain playlists created within the Spotlight template builder. If you enable downloading on the playlist, the download button is now displayed on the playlist files.

Fixes and Improvements for May 12th

May 12th, 2022

Today’s release adds more options to the Collection Bin and fixes a video-player bug, so you can play videos frame by frame.

What’s New

  • In the Collection Bin, you can now hover over a file and select either “View” or “Remove” from the options menu on the right.

Fixes and Improvements

  • The left and right arrow keys are now working when you watch videos in “Auto Advance” mode. These keyboard shortcuts let you go back and forward by one frame.
  • In preparation for future improvements, we removed some of the user counts from the left side of the Users page. Administrators can still access user counts by selecting a filter on the left and viewing the corresponding number on the right (next to the “Add Users” button).

Fixes and Improvements for May 3rd

May 3rd, 2022

This week’s release adds more help text and Knowledge Base links throughout Shift, so you can quickly find answers to some common questions. We also fixed bugs affecting specific Review Link scenarios.

What’s New

  • When you share a Review Link with a distribution list, we let you know if your settings require the removal of certain people from your list. For example, if you chose “Workspace users” as your Access setting, you cannot share the link with any non-workspace users on your list. Our new messaging aims to make these kinds of restrictions clearer.
  • We also added new messaging to the Insights page. If you are editing a Review Link via Insights, we now show you how to add files to your link. This workflow changed last month, when we introduced the new Sent Links tab for faster link editing.

Fixes

  • This release fixes a bug with on-demand watermarking. Before, a video might indicate that watermarking was still in progress when the video was in fact ready for viewing. Now, the video updates automatically, so you can start watching without reloading the page.
  • When you right-click on a folder, the options menu no longer overlaps with file thumbnails in list view.
  • Managers and users can now share a public Review Link with a distribution list that contains non-workspace emails. Before, this option was only working properly for administrators.
  • Lastly, this release fixes a bug affecting playback of password-protected videos sent from projects with an email or custom-text watermark. Now, if the link expires and you choose to renew it, your link recipients can still watch the videos, even if they don’t have a Shift account.

Share Window Improvements in Shift & New Features in Shift GO

April 14th, 2022

This week’s release makes it easier to watermark your Review Links and introduces the User Profile page in our mobile app.

What’s New

  • You can now access your User Profile on the Shift GO app for iOS and Android. First, tap the gear icon in the bottom right. Then, select “My Profile” to upload your profile picture or update your user information.
  • We freshened up the menus, fonts, and background colors throughout Shift GO for smoother navigation and greater readability.

 Fixes and Improvements

  • We made improvements to the Watermarking tab located in the Share window’s Advanced section. Now, you can select any watermark template, and we’ll let you know if the template requires any changes to your access setting.
  • Dates are now displayed in a more user-friendly format throughout Shift. For example, the Sent Links tab now says a Review Link expired on “Apr 7, 2022” instead of “4/7/2022.”
  • Your default Review Link message, which is set in Administration, now appears in the Share window under “Message.” We fixed a bug affecting this feature in certain cases.
  • When you edit a Review Link’s title or expiration date in the Sent Links tab, the updated information is now displayed in Insights as well.
  • When you add more recipients to an email-watermarked link, the checkbox “Only send link to new recipients” now works, no matter where you enter new recipients. Previous recipients will no longer receive an additional email.
