Improved PDF Export

We've made exporting spaces to PDF faster and more reliable with a new print preview.

What's new?
  • New print preview screen to see how the PDF will look before exporting
  • Scale tables to fit — you can scale them to fit A4
  • Portrait & Landscape option — in the past users could not see their full tables
  • Background graphics activated by default
  • Public Links support printing
  • Updated branding — Abacum logo + client name & logo in exports
  • Automatic table loading — no need to scroll for preloading before printing
What’s next?
  • One-page export to avoid weird page cuts.
  • Scheduled PDF reports.
Things to consider
  • It's still not perfect as there are some edge cases that are outside of our control. If previously it only worked in 10% of the cases, now it works for 80%.
  • Due to a Chrome bug, extra spacing has been added between content to ensure tables display correctly
  • In very long spaces, it may take a moment for all tables to load before printing

New model diagram is here! See how your variables connect and find dependencies faster

Visualize your model's variable relationships with the new Model Diagram. This diagram provides a quick overview of the relationships among all variables in the model, along with their respective data sources. This helps you:

  • See how data flows through your model.
  • See the dependencies between variables.
  • Quickly find related variables.
  • Easily search and highlight specific variables within their context.

How does it work?

To visualize variable connections, right-click and select 'Show variable in diagram'. A visual map displays the relationships. You can quickly locate any variable using the search bar, which highlights it within the diagram. Clicking on a variable zooms in for detailed connection views. Links to external data sources are provided. A version comparison tab shows dependency changes across model versions.

KPI Cards revamp: Scenarios, Estimates & new Time Frames

We’ve overhauled KPI Cards to bring them in line with Tables, making them more flexible, transparent, and powerful. Now, you can use Scenarios, Estimates, and the same Time Frames available in Tables. What’s new?
  • New Time Frame selection (now with Estimates!)
    • Fixed and Relative time frames now work just like in Tables, replacing the old legacy time frames.
    • The selected time frame is now visible on the KPI Card, so you always know what you’re looking at.
    • Estimates now work in KPI Cards, just like in Tables. Hover over the version name to see which months use Actuals and which use version data.
  • Scenarios in KPI Cards
    • Use Scenarios as the main version, for comparisons, or as Estimates when the main version is Actuals.
    • Compare two scenarios against each other or against Actuals.
  • Redesigned KPI Card selector & display
    • The new selector matches Tables, ensuring a seamless experience.
    • KPI Cards now display the version name, comparison version, and selected time frame (something that was missing before). It also enables us to add future improvements such as sparklines.
Why this change?

Previously, KPI Cards lacked support for Estimates, Scenarios, and new Time Frames. To enable these, we redesigned the UI to match Tables, improving clarity and avoiding future rework. Now, you get consistent, transparent reporting across both KPI Cards and Tables.

Split, merge and edit mappings from dimensions table

We’re excited to announce a significant improvement to make your experience in the platform more autonomous and make dimensions easier to use. We are addressing a key pain point: editing existing dimension items directly from dimensions table. You know how cumbersome it is to download, modify in Excel, and re-upload dimension files, especially when you need to merge or split items – and when you have to worry about conflicts in your different versions.

Now, you can edit dimension mappings directly in the platform, including merging and splitting, with automatic version conflict management. Imagine this:

  • You want to consolidate two similar dimension items into one (merge). Instead of exporting, editing in Excel, and re-uploading, you can now simply edit the dimension directly in the platform, selecting the items to merge.
  • You need to break down a single dimension item into two separate items (split). This is now achievable directly in the platform, without needing to update all your version manual inputs or version formulas.
  • You want to correct a mapping error across all your versions. Now, you can edit the mapping directly, and the system will automatically propagate the changes.

Here’s how it works:

  • Click on any cell in the dimension table to edit a dimension item.
  • When editing, a dropdown will appear, displaying all existing dimension items for that level, sorted alphabetically. You can select a new or existing item to replace the current one.
  • A small blue dot will appear in the right column of the edited row, signaling unsaved changes.
  • After clicking Save, your updates will be applied across datasets, version datasets, manual inputs, and version formulas.

Learn more about how the system propagates your changes across the rest of the resources in the platform here.

And that’s not all! We have also moved the location where the "Rename dimension level items" happens to allow you do more than one rename at a time. This makes multiple renames much faster and more efficient. Find more info here.

This feature is being rolled out in phases. If you need assistance setting it up, please contact our support team.

Your feedback in action: Improvements on latest releases

We are pleased to announce several quick-win improvements, directly addressing feedback received from users.

1. Enhanced dimension table filtering and sorting:

You can now filter and sort the dataset value column in dimensions table. This feature significantly simplifies the management of unassigned dimensions, providing a more intuitive, Excel-like experience.

2. Clearer version and scenario identification in the Manual Input Panel:

We've implemented a clearer display of the active 'Version' within the Manual Input Panel. When working with non-default scenarios, both the 'Version' and 'Scenario' will be clearly displayed. This ensures you always know which data context you are editing, minimizing potential errors and enhancing data integrity.

3. On-demand AI variable description generation:

You can now generate AI-powered variable descriptions at any time. This provides greater flexibility and allows you to efficiently document your variables as needed. Learn more about this feature here.

AI-Powered Formulas: Unleash the Power of Natural Language

What’s new?

We're thrilled to announce Abacum's groundbreaking AI Formula Assistant! Now, building complex formulas for your key metrics is as simple as a conversation. With just a click, you can generate formulas for common calculations, and refine or create entirely new logic simply by describing what you need in natural language.

Why does this matter?

For years, we've been accustomed to the complexities of formula syntax in tools like Excel. But now, Abacum offers a smarter, more intuitive approach. Leveraging the power of AI, we're ensuring in a new era of software interaction, moving beyond buttons and actions to the ease and flexibility of natural language prompts. Abacum's AI Formula Assistant is the first step towards a completely code-free experience for managing your actuals and forecasts, ensuring they work precisely as you intend.

How does it work?

The AI Formula Assistant is seamlessly integrated into both actuals and Forecast for variables without existing formulas:

  • Actuals: Clicking the AI button automatically generates a formula based on the variable name. This is especially helpful for commonly used financial formulas and leverages your existing variables for a truly click-free experience. If the generated formula isn't quite right, simply describe the calculation you need, and the system will provide new formula suggestions.
  • Forecast: When working with an empty formula, clicking the AI button opens a prompt where you can describe the forecasting logic you want to apply.

After generating a formula, the AI Formula Assistant provides a clear explanation of the underlying logic, ensuring transparency and giving you insight into how the system interpreted your request.

Key points to consider

  • AI is a powerful tool, but it's still learning. Always review the suggested formulas to ensure they accurately reflect your specific business requirements.
  • The AI Formula Assistant is a continuously evolving model. While this initial version doesn't yet support filters within formulas, you can easily add them afterward, just as you normally would.
  • Rest assured that no confidential data is transmitted outside of your system or used for model training.

What’s next?

We're committed to continuously improving the AI Formula Assistant. Upcoming enhancements include:

  • More accurate and refined responses for currently supported variables.
  • Expanded support for more complex logic, including filtering by dimensions and/or time.
  • The ability to refine existing formulas using natural language.
