Easily copy-paste dimension items

What’s new?

You can now copy-paste dimension items in the manual input panel, which should make it much easier and faster to add new rows of data.

How does it work?

Simply copy existing dimension items and paste them into new rows. You can also copy from Excel or Google Sheets. Note that if you copy an entire row, you’ll need to change at least one dimension after to not add values to duplicated rows.

Improved experience creating datasets

What's new?

Today, we're introducing the first iteration of our new dataset configuration wizard. From now on, this wizard will be a part of your dataset creation process.

Why?

In the past, when you uploaded or synced your data, Abacum automatically inferred the “type” of each column in your dataset. The new Dataset Configuration Wizard gives you more control during the dataset creation process, enabling you to review the data for accuracy before your dataset is created.

How it works?

Abacum’s new dataset configuration wizard provides you with more flexibility to prepare your data. With this release, you can:
  • Select the format and type of your data (dates, numbers, text)
  • Change columns from a number to a text type (so you can more easily use it as a dimension)
  • Ignore columns when preparing your data, including bulk ignore
  • Bring in a new column/columns to an existing dataset

For more information about the configuration wizard, you can check our Academy page.

Note: The wizard currently doesn’t support NetSuite, Xero, Salesforce Reports or Sage Intacct datasets.

Changed behaviour for version uploads

What’s new?

We now support partial version uploads! If you remove an entire row from the version upload file, it will be ignored during the upload.

Why does it matter?

Previously, we did not ignore the row but instead deleted all the values.

How does it work?

With this release, you'll be able to:

  • Update just a few variables in your upload, you can completely remove all the unnecessary rows.
  • Bulk-delete values for a variable or many rows, keep the variable name + dimensions in the file and simply delete the values in the month columns.

Decimal controls for Variance %

What's new?

You can now control the number of decimals of variance percentages.

Why does it matter?

Previously, it was not possible to adjust the number of decimal places for variance % values, which meant that you were stuck to 2 decimals. This often led to cluttered visualizations that were difficult to interpret.

Add input to multiple variables at once

What’s new?

With this iteration, you can add manual inputs to multiple variables in one go, in a side-by-side view.

Why does it matter?

Currently, if you want to add a new employee with their start/end date, salary, and bonus, you have to add each one separately. This takes a lot of time and you have to fill out the same information for each one. With this release, you'll be able to link these variables and fill in the information at once.

How does it work?

In the new pinned column on the right side of the manual input panel, you can now link a variable to one or multiple other variables by clicking on the link icon. This change will make it easier for you to see these variables next to each other both in the module and in Spaces.

Linked tables and charts 🔗

What's new?

You can now easily identify if a table or chart is used in another space.

Why does it matter?

This provides better control when making changes across multiple spaces and helps prevent unwanted changes in other spaces.

How does it work?

When a block is linked and added in another space, simply hover over the chip to preview the spaces where it's being used. Learn more about this functionality here.

Spaces just got a fresher look! 🎨✨

What's new?

Spaces have a brand new look and feel and more options to customise blocks and report layouts!

What's included in this release:

  • Refreshed Spaces UI: We've given Spaces a fresh new look with an updated visual style for tables, charts, and callouts. You can now also adjust the height of your blocks and control how table columns are displayed as compact or full-width, giving you more flexibility to create polished reports to share or export.
  • Flexible report presentation: We understand the significance of presenting your reports effectively. That's why we've introduced a new feature that allows you to set Spaces to a fixed width. This ensures a consistent viewing experience for your audience, regardless of their screen size, and also optimizes the layout for PDF exports.

How does it work?

To set the height of a block go to 6-dots (block contextual menu) and set your preferred height. Try it on side-by-side blocks and it will automatically align them. Full explanation here.

To adjust the width of spaces go to the 3-dot menu of a space and set it to “fixed”. Everyone visiting the space will now see it exactly like that. Learn how it works here.

New text transformations: MID, SUBSTITUTE, TEXTSPLIT and TRIM

What's new?

We've introduced new text manipulation operations in the Data Set Manager, giving you the power to clean and transform your data, making it ready for use in Abacum.

These are the newly added operations:

  • MID: Same as its Excel equivalent. It extracts a substring by position indexes.
  • SUBSTITUTE: Looks for the appearance of certain fragments in a text and replaces all occurrences with the desired value. Works in the same way as Substitute in Excel.
  • TEXTSPLIT: Splits text strings by a given delimiter across columns. Then, from the generated splits, it keeps the desired one.
  • TRIM: Removes all spaces from text except for single spaces between words.

To dive deeper into syntax and the use of operators, check out our academy article.

New location for change input type and import actuals

What’s new?

Previously, the change input type option was on the top of the manual input panel, and import actuals were under the three-dot menu next to Save changes.

Now, you can find both options under the 3-dot menu next to the variable name in the table's header.
