Dataset and dataset columns dependency Insights!

In our latest release, we're excited to bring a new level of clarity and control to your data journey.

Understanding the utilization of dataset columns has historically posed challenges. Some dataset columns were "locked" due to their use in dimensions, measures, or transformations, hindering adjustment—a common struggle for users like you.

What's new? With our latest update, we've implemented a solution. You now have the ability to check outgoing and incoming dependencies on your datasets and columns through the info panel in the dataset sidebar. Initially, you'll receive a summary of usage, followed by a more detailed view of dependencies.

Dimensions dashboard improvement

In response to your feedback, we've introduced an additional column to your dimensions view, offering you vital insights into your dimensions. Now, you can identify:

  • Whether a dimensions is set to auto.
  • If all dimensions are mapped.
  • Any unassigned elements.

How Does It Help?

This latest enhancement empowers you to easily spot any unassigned dimension item and take prompt action. No more manual searching through dimensions!

Create new dimension items on Version uploads

What's new?

We're pleased to announce that we now allow direct creation of new dimension items during Version uploads! Say goodbye to ignored rows as you can now map new items while submitting budgets and forecasts, eliminating the need to update dimensions beforehand.

How does it improve your experience?

Upload your version Excel file with new dimension items and promptly map them in their respective dimension. Take greater control of your new forecasting data. No more tedious dimension updates are required before uploading your Versions successfully.

Improvement on GSheets Integration: Usage of tab ID instead of tab name

We have received valuable feedback from users who have encountered sync errors after renaming tabs in Google Sheets. This issue arose because the system relied solely on tab names as reference points, leading to difficulties in syncing the data when these names were changed.

So, what's the good news?

Now, when you establish a connection between a Google Sheet file and Abacum, we not only record the file ID but also the tab ID and tab name. This ensures that even if you decide to update your tab names or file titles, Abacum remains connected to the correct tab ID.

But what happens if you accidentally delete a tab? Initially, Abacum will attempt to locate the tab using its ID. If this proves unsuccessful, it proceeds to search for the tab name within the file. In the unlikely event that both methods fail to locate the tab, you will receive an error message, alerting you to the issue.

Versions period: Adjust Start Year forward and End Year backward

What's new?

Version time period can now be edited with ease, within specific guidelines:
    • Version time periods can extend up to 12 years, offering ample planning and forecasting capabilities. For unique cases requiring further extension, our support team is readily available to assist.
    • The year picker dynamically adjusts based on selected parameters, facilitating seamless selection between start and end years.
    • Start years can be set up to 12 years prior to the end year, while end years can extend up to 12 years beyond the start year.
      • Example: With the end year set to 2024, users can select start years ranging from 2013 to 2024. Conversely, setting the start year to 2024 enables selection of end years from 2024 to 2035.

How does it improve your experience?

This new feature significantly enhances user experience by providing greater flexibility and control over Version management. You can now adjust start and end years within specified parameters with ease, enabling precise tailoring of Version timelines according to your needs. This functionality eliminates the frustration and inefficiencies previously experienced when duplicating Versions for forecasting purposes. With the ability to customize Version periods easily, you will be able to streamline this forecast workflow, improve accuracy, and optimize performance in model calculations.

Introducing the Relative Time Frame

What?

Allowing you to generate any possible time frame by using the new Relative time frame. From now on, you'll be able to create custom time frames by selecting a relative start and end dates, choosing data granularity (Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly, or Total), and specifying versions for future estimates. For example, some of the time frames we are unblocking are the following:

  • Total of last 12 months
  • Next 4 quarters by quarter
  • WFC/FYE for next 2 years by quarter
  • Last 3 years by months

Why?

Until now, you couldn't replicate all your reports because our time frame options were too limited. While we had some preset options, you couldn't really customize them to fit your reporting needs. In addition, we are simplifying time presets so that there are only two: relative & fixed.

How does it work?

Creating a new time frame is now simple and intuitive. When clicking on “+” or “Add new time frame", you'll be able to select a preset from the list and customize it as needed.

  • Select the start and ending month/quarter/year based on your last month of actuals
  • Easily add and subtract periods to both the start and end dates
  • The selected time range is displayed clearly, allowing you to see the chosen start and end dates at a glance.
  • Choose how to break down your data → By month, quarter, year or total
  • Select versions as Estimates
