🪧 Two comparisons, one KPI card

KPI cards now support two comparisons at once, so you can track Actuals against Budget and Last Period on a single card, without duplication.

✨ What's new

  • Add up to two comparisons per KPI card
  • Each comparison displays with its own label and variance badge — no ambiguity about which delta belongs to which version

⚙️ How it works

  1. Open the KPI card settings and go to the Setup tab
  2. Click + Add comparison and select a version (and scenario, if applicable)
  3. Variance format (% or absolute) applies across both comparisons — set it once for the card

🧩 Plan for new cost allocations directly in the Input Table

You can now duplicate any existing row and adapt it to plan for what's coming, without needing to know the full dimension structure from scratch.

What's new:

  • Start from a row you trust. Duplicate any existing row and use it as your starting point. Dimension items copy over, values don't.
  • Modify until it's yours. Update the dimension items to reflect the new cost allocation you're planning for. The table validates as you go.
  • Hidden columns handled for you. Even if some dimension columns aren't visible in your view, they're copied correctly, no guesswork required.

How to get started:

  1. Right-click any row in the Input Table
  2. Select Duplicate Row
  3. Edit the dimension items in the new row to reflect what you're planning for
  4. Enter your values and save

🎯 Open Scenario Studio from spaces

Scenario Studio is now part of the Spaces experience. If you're an Admin or Super Admin, you can now start optimizations directly from Tables and KPI cards.

✨What's new

Scenario Studio is now accessible directly from Tables and KPI Cards in Spaces. Admins and Super Admins can trigger a simulation right where they're analyzing data, with the relevant variable, version and time frame pre-loaded automatically.

⚙️How it works

Two new entry points bring Scenario Studio into your analysis workflow:

  • Table cells: right-click any cell tied to a writable version (e.g., Budget, Forecast) to see the "Open in Scenario Studio" option in the context menu.
  • KPI cards: open the 3-dot menu on any KPI card displaying a writable version to access the same action.

⚡️ Add a spark to your Space

Don't just report numbers—visualize the story behind them. We’ve added optional Sparklines to your KPI cards, allowing you to identify growth trends and seasonal patterns at a glance directly within your Spaces.

✨ What’s New

Understand your trajectory without digging into full reports. This update lets you toggle a miniature trend graph for any KPI card to see the "why" behind the values.

⚙️ How it Works

  • Select your KPI. Open any Space and click a KPI card to enter settings.
  • Enable the Sparkline. The graph will automatically render in the card, breaking data into monthly plot points for consistent analysis.

🛡️Google Sheets integration revamp

Until today, the first step in connecting Google Sheet to Abacum was often met with a frustrating "Google blocked this access" or "Unverified app" warning. These alerts could create additional friction with your IT and Security teams.

But this has changed: We have completed Google’s formal certification. You will no longer see scary red warning screens when connecting your spreadsheets.

✨ What’s new?

  • Official Google verification: No more "Unverified App" warnings.
  • Multiple account support: You can now connect and manage more than one Google account within your Abacum workspace.
  • Dataset oversight: A new "Info" action on your connection card allows you to review exactly which datasets are linked to a specific Google account at any time.
  • Additional security checkpoints: To maintain the highest security standards, you will be prompted to briefly re-authenticate when creating a new dataset or exporting data to Google Sheets

💡Best practice: Usage of a central account

To ensure your data remains stable even as your team changes, we highly recommend using a central or service account (e.g., [email protected]) rather than an individual user's email.

  • Maintain continuity: Always select your organization's central account when prompted to re-authenticate during dataset creation or model exports.
  • Avoid data gaps: Using a central account prevents "orphaned" datasets – connections that break if a specific team member leaves the company.
  • Full visibility: You can always check which account is powering a specific dataset in the "Accounts info" section of your Google Sheets card.

⚙️ How to get started

The new integration flow is automatically enabled for newly created organizations. For existing workspaces, it is being rolled out gradually to ensure a smooth transition. If you would like to activate it sooner, please contact your Customer Success Manager or the Abacum Support team. Once enabled, the setup process is simple:

  1. Re-authenticate Click “Re-authenticate” on the Google Sheets card in the Integrations menu.
  2. Trigger the migration for existing datasets: To ensure previously connected datasets continue working under the new verified integration:

    • Start creating a new dataset.
    • Open the Google Sheets file picker.
    • Select any existing spreadsheet (this can be done multiple times if needed).
    • As soon as the picker is opened and a file is selected, Abacum will register access to that spreadsheet and automatically migrate the existing datasets to the new connection.
You do not need to finish creating the dataset. Simply opening the picker and selecting a file is enough to activate the new integration and ensure previously connected datasets keep working.
  3. Create new datasets or export data: From now on, when creating a new dataset or exporting data from a model, Abacum may ask you to briefly re-authenticate your Google account to confirm the secure connection.

🍕 Slice and dice data directly from Spaces

We’re putting the power of deep analysis into everyone’s hands. With our new Block Controls, any user can slice, dice, and pivot data directly within a Space—making analysis faster and more flexible than ever.

✨ What’s New

Stop waiting for report updates. You can now perform instant ad-hoc analysis on tables and charts within a Space. Pivot data hierarchies, switch time granularities, or apply local filters to answer "what-if" questions instantly, without ever opening the Table Builder.

⚙️ How it Works

Once an Admin enables Block Controls in the Table Builder, users can interact with them directly in any Space. There are three types of controls:

  • Dimension. Filter specific items (like products or countries) to narrow your view.
  • Time Aggregation. Toggle between Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly, or Total views with a single click.
  • Grouping. Change your data hierarchy instantly by dragging and dropping dimensions (e.g., swapping ‘Region > Department’ to ‘Department > Region’).

🔢 Simpler, clearer variance calculations in tables

We've updated how variances are calculated in tables to make them more intuitive and consistent across the platform.

✨ What's changed

  • One formula for all variables. Variance is now always calculated as A − B (absolute) and (A − B) / ABS(B) (percentage), regardless of whether a variable is favorable or unfavorable. No more sign flipping.
  • Color tells the story. The variance type (favorable/unfavorable) now only determines the color: green when performance is good, red when it isn't. The number itself always reflects the straight math.
  • Consistent with KPI cards. Tables now follow the same logic already used in KPI cards, so you get the same result everywhere.

🔄 What changed and why

Previously, unfavorable variables (like Cost of Sales) had their variance sign inverted: if you spent $120K against a $100K budget, the table showed −$20K in red. The intention was to signal "bad," but the negative sign was confusing because costs actually went up, not down.

Now, that same scenario shows +$20K in red: you spent $20K more than planned. The red still tells you it's bad, and the number tells you by how much.

⚠️ Good to know

This change applies automatically to all existing tables. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to your Abacum point of contact and we'll be happy to help.
