Version actions from the Version Selector in the Model Builder

What's new?

Version actions are now also available from the Model Builder's Version Selector. Execute key version actions without leaving your modeling workspace:
  • Create Version
  • Duplicate
  • Duplicate as Manual Inputs
  • Edit Version (including renaming and adjusting periods)
  • Change Category (forecast/budget)
  • Delete Version
  • Set Active
  • Lock

Why is this feature important?

No more switching between pages to manage your versions while working on them in the Model Builder. We value efficiency in your modeling workflow.

How does it improve your experience?

With these integrated options, Version management becomes more easily accessible and straightforward. You can perform these tasks seamlessly from the Model Builder, or the Versions page as usual.

Future improvements

In this release, the functionalities to upload/download manual inputs will continue to redirect you to perform these actions on the Version page. We intend to incorporate these features in the Model Builder in future iterations.

Note: This feature is currently undergoing a phased rollout. If it isn't visible in your instance yet, expect it to be available within the upcoming days.

Small Quick Fix: ISBLANK() Formula in Transformations

Previously, performing IF ELSE operations involving dates and other data types required cumbersome steps due to limitations in our existing functionality. This complexity made tasks less efficient for users like you.

To address this challenge, we're rolling out the ISBLANK() formula. Modeled after Excel's functionality, ISBLANK() accurately detects empty values, returning TRUE, and identifies non-empty values, returning FALSE. This enhancement hopes to streamline IF ELSE operations.

Reordering versions in Charts

Why?

You were not able to choose the order in which versions were displayed in the chart and its legend. By default, we were placing versions before Actuals, which was not the expected behaviour by most users.

What?

Allowing you to reorder versions in the chart by dragging them in the Comparisons menu.

How does it work?

By default, Actuals will appear first in the chart and its legend. You will be able to select other versions using the Comparisons menu, and dragging them up and down will reflect that order in the chart.

Considerations

Since "Estimates" used in the Between time preset don't appear in the Comparisons section but might be displayed in your chart, you would need to add them in the Comparisons section (in case they don't appear there already) and reorder them accordingly. Bear in mind that they don't need to be activated for you to be able to reorder them.

"Period last year" for Between time preset

Why?

Until now, you were not able to compare any time frame generated using the Between time preset with its "Period last year" option.

What?

Allowing you to select "Period last year" when using the Between time frame.

How does it work?

Go to the "Comparisons" menu and select "Period last year" option.

Considerations

Because of the "Between" time frame logic, you will not be able to select the "Last period" option as it would give you the same result as the "Period last year".

Enhanced Version upload options

What's new?

Introducing a new capability for managing your Version data uploads. Now, when you upload a Version, you have the flexibility to decide how to handle the existing manual inputs for rows not included in the Excel file.

Why is this feature important?

We understand that managing existing and new manual inputs during a Version upload process can be complex, especially when updating only a few variables of your Model.

How does it improve your experience?

With these new options, managing existing forecast data when updating your Version will be easier and more efficient.

When uploading your Version, simply choose your preferred option from the new dropdown menu:

  • Keep manual inputs: This option preserves manual inputs for all rows not included in the uploaded Excel file.
  • Delete manual inputs: This option removes manual inputs for all rows not included in the uploaded Excel file.

Upload/download your Forecast from the Versions page

What's new?
We're excited to announce an improvement in managing version data. Now, the Version Data page has been integrated into the Versions page, offering a more efficient way to upload and download all your forecast and budget data directly within the Versions page.

Why?
Previously, it could be challenging to find the Version Data page by having to navigate through the Models page. Moving this functionality into the Versions page allows you to manage all your versions in one centralized place, ensuring better visibility and ease of access.

How does it work?
Version data for all models can now be conveniently managed through the Versions page. Click on the 3-dots menu of each version to download and upload your versions for each model.

Additionally, we've introduced an activity log feature that provides visibility into all version uploads. This includes detailed information on who uploaded new values and when, as well as any warnings or errors that may have occurred during the process.

Note: This feature is currently undergoing a phased rollout. If it isn't visible in your instance yet, expect it to be available within the upcoming days.

"Show empty variables" at table level

Why?

Recently, we introduced the “Show empty variables” feature, changing the existing behaviour and displaying all variables in tables. Prior to this, we were hiding by default all empty variables from tables. Some admins, comfortable with the old behaviour, expressed a desire for more control over when to display empty variables.

What?

New “Show empty variables” toggle

How does it work?

  • Located in the Visualization section of Table Builder, beneath “Show Total”.
  • Deactivated by default, maintaining the old behaviour which hides empty variables.
  • Users can activate the toggle to display empty variables, aligning with the new behaviour introduced.

Considerations

  • Since variables are empty, despite displaying the drill-down arrow, no dimensions will appear.
  • Even if the toggle is ON, we will still not display any variables in the following tables:
    • Tabular tables
    • Pivot tables
    • Tables with dimensions above variables in Row groups

KPI Card - Version selection

Why?
Until now, you were only able to display "Actuals" values in KPI Cards. This was limiting, as sometimes you also need to highlight Forecast or Budget values in your reports.

What?
We are now allowing you to select a variable's version value as the main number in KPI cards. You can also compare version values with another version (or even actuals).

How does it work?
When creating a KPI card, you will see new "Version" section, and you will be able to choose the one you want to display as the main number.

Charts - Last Period & Period Last Year appear in series section

Why?
Previously, “Last Period” and “Period Last Year” were not displayed in the series section of charts. Consequently, both actuals and these comparisons shared the same colour, causing significant difficulty in distinguishing between them.

What?
By selecting “Last Period” and the “Period Last Year” comparisons, you can now find them in the series section of charts. You are now able to customize their colouring, facilitating effortless differentiation between them.

Between with Estimates for Charts

Why?

Until now, you could create tables using the Between with Estimates time preset, but you were not able to use it for charts.

What?

We are now are allowing you to create charts when using the Between with Estimates time preset. This is particularly useful for scenario planning, as it will help you visualize multiple versions in one single chart and compare them next to each other.
