New auto-mapping setting: Auto-map to a default item
We've launched a new auto-map setting, "Auto-map to default item," designed to simplify dimension management, particularly for datasets with many unique items (like customer or vendor lists).
This feature automatically assigns new, incoming data entries to a designated "default" category (e.g., "Other," "Miscellaneous"). This prevents the creation of thousands of individual items, which can slow down performance.
Why is it useful?
- Faster performance: Reduces the number of individual dimension items, leading to quicker loading and processing.
- Simplified analysis: Allows you to focus on key data categories by grouping less critical items.
- Automated data categorization: Automatically assigns new data during uploads and syncs, reducing manual work.
- Flexible management: You can still edit and manage the items within the default category.
How does it work?
- Turn on "Auto-map to default item" in the dimension settings.
- You can choose or create a dimension item to act as the "default" category.
- New data entries will be automatically placed into the default category. And any existing, unassigned items are also moved to the default category when the setting is enabled.
- Renaming the default category will not change the names of items already assigned to it.
Example use cases:
- Grouping less important customers into an "Other customers" category.
- Consolidating minor vendors into a "General vendors" group.
- Organizing low-volume products into an "Other products" category.
