Keep your Snowflake staging data in Azure
The Snowflake connection now supports Azure Blob Storage for import and export staging.
If you run Snowflake on Azure, you had to stage import and export files through an AWS S3 bucket, even when all your data lived in Azure. Now the Snowflake connection supports Azure Blob Storage as an external storage option, next to S3 and Google Cloud Storage. You authenticate with a Microsoft Entra ID app registration: Tenant ID, Client ID, Client secret, storage account name, and container.
Your staging data stays inside your own Azure tenant. That removes the cross-cloud dependency and the S3 egress costs, and gives Azure the same staging setup S3 and Google Cloud Storage already had. Secure Data Sharing isn't affected, since it already supported Azure. Update the plugin through the Plugin Gallery to get started.
Benefits:
- Keeps staging data inside your own Azure tenant
- Removes the need for an AWS S3 bucket on Azure-based Snowflake setups
- Cuts cross-cloud egress costs
