Set Your Ternary Notification Preferences

Many customers have asked for the ability to modify the frequency and delivery of daily spend reports and the ability to enable or disable anomaly, budget, and recommendation notifications inside the Ternary user interface. We heard you. Today, we are happy to release a new feature allowing the modification of these settings within your Ternary user profile. You will find the the new 'Settings' feature under your Ternary login profile.

Which will take you to the new Settings configuration page

Spend by Region

We often hear from customers that visibility into spend across your geographical cloud footprint is important as you serve your applications closer to your users or to better understand the cost trade-offs across GCP regions. Beginning today, you can now surface the native GCP 'location' label in Ternary and apply it to your graphs and filters as shown in the Home graph below.

Net Costs Now Available on the Home Graph

We know many organizations budget, forecast, and track cloud spend at a line of business, product or dev team level, and it is operationally meaningful to visualize costs inclusive of any pricing discounts received through long-term commitments; such as an Enterprise Agreement, as well as usage discounts resulting from Sustained Use Discounts (SUDs) and Committed Use Discounts (CUDs) plus any other type of promotional credit. Until today, the only way to visualize your discounts was in Cost Reports.

Now, you can visualize those same discounts on your Home dashboard and graph. We enabled the 'Net Cost' toggle to quickly view and measure your Gross and Net Costs for planning and variance analysis.

New Navigation Category and Compute Visibility Release

We heard many of you ask for easier navigation in Ternary and deeper exploration of the largest spend driver in nearly all organizations - Compute. Today, we are excited to announce both asks in a single release. You will notice a new navigation category 'Insights' in the main feature menu navigation.

Within the new Insights collection, we have bundled the primary visibility and optimization features (Compute, Kubernetes, Storage) allowing for a smoother navigation experience and grouping of FinOps phases related to each - Visibility and Optimization. The Kubernetes and Storage visibility sets remain unchanged as does Compute and Kubernetes optimization, however, we have significantly enhanced Compute visibility providing deeper inspection of all costs that make up your compute spend such as disk, operating system licensing fees and discounts applied to the usage (SUD, CUD, Preemptible).

Once you drill down into a specific compute category such as Block Storage Class, a new detailed table is displayed with a time range selector and CSV export option. We hope this enhancement allows you to make more informed decisions related to your compute spend.

New Dashboard Data Visualization - Pie Charts

We are excited to release a new data visualization option to our Homepage dashboard, providing you with a second view of your spend as a pie chart. We added a toggle on your dashboard to quickly visualize your spend over the selected timeframe in a pie chart. Clicking the icon displays the new chart alongside your stacked line chart.

Similar to the line chart, you can click into the pie chart to go one level deeper based on your selected aggregations - category, project_id and sku_description - as shown in this screen capture example.

Agentless Kubernetes Support and Enhanced GCP BigQuery Features!

Kubernetes Visibility: We have released support for Kubernetes! We now allow you to easily view CPU and Memory usage/waste data for clusters, namespaces and workloads across your organization. Our implementation does not require an agent meaning that you don't have to install anything on all the clusters that your organization set up Ternary with in order for this feature to work for you. You also don't have to manually add any clusters, we automatically detect and present your clusters from the permissions that were granted when you enabled Ternary.

GCP BigQuery Flat and Flex Slot Visibility: We've enhanced BigQuery visibility to include both your flat and flex slots consumption. With this feature you can view either hourly, by minutes, or by second consumption of your slots alongside your flat and flex commitments. The intention is to help you visualize where you're over/under utilizing slot consumption and the impact that has on your performance. The goal is for you to be able to make an informed decision on when and how many slots are appropriate for your organization.

Custom Label Aggregation on Home Page

Now the Ubergraph allows you to set up custom level drill downs based on both custom and native labels! For instance, you might have compute jobs that are serve particular customers and are labeled as prod. You can now customize the aggregation that you see on the ubergraph to show you that particular label. Read more about how to use the feature.

Introducing Multi-Month Budgets

We've deepened our budget functionality to include the ability to set monthly budgets for an arbitrary amount of months.  To accommodate the dynamic nature of financial planning, we've also introduced the concept of versioning in budgets - in order for you to track how your budgets views have changed quarter over quarter or year over year. This functionality is intended to help you do longer term financial planning that corresponds more with your fiscal year operations.
