Legacy Billing Reports to be Retired

With the full transition to FOCUS Billing, all Ternary data and reporting now come from this modern, unified pipeline. As a result, we are deprecating the legacy billing data source and the reports built on it.

Key dates

  • March 2, 2026: Ternary will stop importing data from the legacy billing pipeline. Reports using 'Billing' as the data source will no longer update, but will remain visible in your tenant.
  • July 31, 2026: All legacy billing reports will be permanently removed from the Ternary platform.

What you need to know

To continue tracking your cloud spend, we recommend migrating any reports still using the legacy 'Billing' source to the new FOCUS Billing data source.

Cost Allocation and Billing Rules Unified Engine

We are consolidating the existing Ternary Cost Allocation engine into the Ternary MSP Billing Rules Engine to simplify rule management and enable advanced functionality for all customer types. With this release, a single engine will support both direct customers and partners. Direct customers will gain access to billing actions (e.g., rerate, back out line item, etc.) that were previously available only to managed service providers (MSPs).

Update: 06/18/25 - now live!

Migration to FOCUS™ Schema

We're excited to share an important platform enhancement coming to Ternary!

To better align with industry standards and streamline cloud cost management workflows, Ternary is adopting the FOCUS schema across all areas of our platform.

What's changing?

You will start seeing new field names and terminology in the platform’s user interface (UI). For example:

  • Project Name → Sub Account Name
  • Project ID → Sub Account ID

Please access the Ternary Documentation Hub for a full reference guide, mapping all current naming conventions to the new FOCUS conventions.

What you need to know

  • Cosmetic update first: This initial change affects presentation only. The underlying data will continue to use Ternary's existing schema. This phased rollout gives you time to get comfortable with the new terminology before we fully transition.
  • Future full cutover: Later this year, we’ll fully transition to the FOCUS-aligned data structure and deprecate the old Billing data source.
  • No immediate action required: Your current integrations, automations, and reports will continue to work as-is throughout the transition period.

Timeline

  • May 12, 2025: Tenants will be opted-out of FOCUS by default. Administrators will have access to an opt-in/out toggle to switch between the existing naming conventions and FOCUS naming conventions.
  • May 26, 2025: Tenants will be opted-in to FOCUS as the default naming convention. You’ll still have the ability to toggle between the existing naming conventions and FOCUS naming conventions as needed.
  • June 9, 2025: The Ternary platform UI will fully transition to FOCUS.

Shareable URLs for Reports

We’re excited to announce that report sharing is getting easier in the Ternary Reporting Engine. Starting next week, you’ll be able to share reports without saving them first. Whether you're building a brand new report or editing an existing one, your current report state will be persisted in the URL.

Just copy the link and share it. Anyone who opens it will see the exact same configuration you were working on.

Update to Reports - New Meters

We’re excited to unveil a powerful update to Ternary Reports this week! You’ll now see meters above the charts displaying totals for each selected measure, allowing for a quick assessment of key metrics at a glance. Our new meter comparison mode lets you toggle between percentages and unit changes, providing the flexibility to analyze data in the way that best suits your business. Plus, clicking on individual meters now serves as a quick filter for your charts, enabling effortless dives into specific metrics.

Enhanced Home Experience

We have some exciting changes coming to the Ternary Home page over the next couple of months. We want to provide you with more flexibility in building your own Home visualizations by surfacing data in reports and graphs that makes the most sense to you. You may have noticed a couple new updates to the Home page: We have renamed the Home graph (Cost Explorer) to Home Classic and introduced a new button to change your Home page to the new Home Enhanced experience.

Selecting the new Home Enhanced experience automatically displays a pre-built Default Dashboard.

You can toggle back to the Home Classic to compare the enhanced and classic experience. In future iterations, you will be able to select a dashboard you built as your default Home dashboard. We will eventually sunset the Classic Home experience, but want you to have plenty of time to experiment with the new Home Enhanced feature.
