Alerts Rooted in the Data That Matters

Spend moves fast. A service scales unexpectedly. An AI workload runs hot. A cost category that was stable last quarter starts climbing. Alerts surface these movements the moment they happen, not when someone thinks to look.

Ternary supports two modes of alerting, now created directly from any report in the Reporting Engine:

  • Anomaly Detection - a machine learning model trains on 90 days of your historical spend and flags deviations the moment daily cost falls outside its expected range. Each service, account, or dimension grouping gets its own independently trained model, so a spike in one area doesn't drown out signal elsewhere.
  • Threshold Alerting - set a fixed daily spend limit on any report and get notified the moment it's crossed.

Both deliver notifications via email or Slack, so the right people are informed wherever they work.

Alerts are now created directly from the report they monitor. Open any saved report, select the bell icon at the top, and the filters, groupings, and scope are inherited automatically into your alerts. There is no separate configuration to manage and no ambiguity about what data is being watched. Set multiple alerts at different thresholds to inform the right people at the right time.

To get started, open any saved report in the Reporting Engine or create a new alert from the Alerts page located on the left-hand navigation.

Turn Any Report Into a Board-Ready Dashboard in Minutes

Turn Any Report Into a Board-Ready Dashboard in Minutes

Ternary Dashboards have been redesigned to make building and editing faster, more flexible, and built around a single source of truth.

Any saved report can now be added to a dashboard and configured at the widget level — change the visualization, change the grouping, adjust the date scope — without touching the underlying report or creating duplicates. From there:

  • Multi-select reports to add several widgets to a dashboard in a single flow
  • Drag to enter edit mode on any widget directly from the dashboard canvas
  • Per-widget visualization and grouping — present the same report as a table, bar chart, waterfall, or any other visualization without creating a duplicate report
  • Divider widgets to section and structure your dashboard the way a financial review needs to be read
  • Updated widget headers and three-dot menu for faster access to edit, clone, and remove actions

One dataset. One source of truth. Built and edited in minutes.

To get started, open any Dashboard and select Add Widget or select Save to Dashboard from a report. All existing dashboards can take advantage of the new features, as well.

Board-Ready YoY Analysis, Now in the Reporting Engine

Board-Ready YoY Analysis, Now in the Reporting Engine

Technology spend is a board-level line item. But until now, analyzing it the way boards expect, year-over-year with full annual context, required exporting data and rebuilding it elsewhere.

Ternary's Reporting Engine now supports viewing your spend at a yearly granularity. View your total technology investment for 2023, 2024, and 2025 in one place, or compare year-to-date figures with past years. Identify changes in spending growth, shifts, or reallocations across your portfolio.Combine it with Custom Labels and your unified technology P&L to provide the annual trend analysis the board requests.

Year-over-year is no longer a spreadsheet exercise.

To use it, open any report in the Ternary Reporting Engine and select Year from time granularity picker.

All of Your Alerts and Subscriptions in One Place

All of Your Alerts and Subscriptions in One Place

Ternary surfaces signals that matter to your business. You can be notified of budget variances, anomalies, report updates, and periodic summaries of your technology estate. Managing those signals has required navigating to each feature individually. There was no single place to see what you were subscribed to, what had fired, or what you might have missed.

That changes today.

The Subscriptions and Notification Center gives every user a unified view of their alerts and subscriptions across the entire platform, without leaving the page.

  • My Subscriptions - a centralized list of every active subscription across budgets, anomalies, reports, and forecasts, with inline management. Pause, edit, or unsubscribe without hunting through the app.
  • Owned Content - the place to track content that you have created throughout Ternary. Now you can see exactly who is subscribed to the content you've built — so you can assess stakeholder impact before making changes.
  • Alerts History - a chronological inbox of your recent alerts with deep links directly to the relevant content in Ternary.

Access all of your notifications via the Subscriptions link from the left-hand navigation bar or if you see a notification alert in the top-right of the screen by your avatar.

Search, Filter, and Group Across Your Entire Technology Estate

Search, Filter, and Group Across Your Entire Technology Estate

Ternary pulls together technology spend across cloud providers, SaaS, AI, and custom data sources. That breadth matches the complexity of your business, but it also means a lot of dimensions to navigate. Finding the right measure, grouping by the correct dimension and applying the right filters required knowing where to look and what things were called.

The Unified Filter Experience brings a single, consistent filter and dimension picker to every view across the platform. Search by name or description, filter by data source, and browse dimensions organized into logical categories. The new filter puts FOCUS, custom labels and custom measures at the forefront, while still providing access to source keys when needed.

This makes finding the right data more accessible to a wider segment of your business. Every dimension is labeled, described, and organized.

Admins can customize the groupings presented via the Global tab within the Admin page.

Waterfall Chart Visualization - Now Available

Waterfall Chart Visualization - Now Available

The Waterfall chart is the native language of financial accountability. It communicates cost movement to the business and the board. By bringing this construct into Ternary's Reporting Engine, technology spend is now expressible in the same format applied to headcount variance, real estate cost bridges, and capital allocation reviews.

What you can do with it

  • Visualize cumulative billed cost build-up across categories in a single, unambiguous view
  • Identify which cost categories are driving the largest incremental spend within any time period
  • Support unified technology P&L reporting with a visualization that maps directly to how cost bridges are presented in financial reviews

How to access it

Open any report in the Ternary Reporting Engine, select Waterfall from the visualization picker. Finance-grade attribution of your technology investment is just a click away.

Every Custom Label Now Means the Same Thing to Everyone

Every Custom Label Now Means the Same Thing to Everyone

Custom Labels are only as powerful as the people who can use them confidently. Until now, only admins could see the logic behind a label. This left every other user in the Ternary Reporting Engine to interpret cost categorizations without context or understanding of the logic behind them.

All Custom Labels now carry descriptions available to all users. These descriptions are authored either by the admin who built them or generated directly from the underlying rule logic by AI. When anyone interacts with a Custom Label throughout Ternary, the intent and logic behind that label is visible, in plain language, right where they need it.

The result is that every cost categorization in your technology estate is now self-documenting. Consistent interpretation, across every user, every report, every review.

To add a description, open any Custom Label, enter your description manually or select Generate with AI to derive it from the rule logic automatically. To view the description, hover your mouse over the (i) icon next to the Custom Label name when viewing a filter.

[Enhancement] Update to Custom Labels – Dependent Relationships

We’ve added support for defining dependencies between Custom Labels.

What’s new

  • Label dependencies. When creating or editing a Custom Label, you can now specify relationships to other labels it depends on. You can also view which labels are dependent on it.

Why it matters

  • This provides greater visibility and control when working with interconnected labels, helping users better manage dependencies and understand how label logic is structured across their environment.

Update to Ternary Reports – Roll-up Table

We’ve introduced a new table view to better represent hierarchical data in reports.

What’s new:

  • Hierarchical table view. Group data into a structured hierarchy with expandable rows and subtotals at each level.
  • Multi-metric support. View multiple metrics side-by-side within the same roll-up table.

Why it matters:

  • The roll-up table provides a clearer way to analyze grouped data, making it easier to understand relationships between parent and child dimensions. This gives users more flexibility in how they explore and present report data.

Update to Custom Measures – Composite Aggregate Formula Builder

We’ve expanded Custom Metrics to support building formulas across aggregated values.

What’s new:

  • Aggregate formula builder. Define variables (for example, A, B) and combine them into a final KPI using arithmetic operators in a simple formula editor.

Why it matters:

  • This enhancement gives users greater flexibility to define business-specific KPIs, making it easier to express relationships between aggregated metrics directly within Ternary.
