Updates to Forecasting - Totals and Groupings Filter

We’ve enhanced Ternary Forecasting to improve visibility and streamline filter interactions during forecast creation and analysis.

Show totals in forecasting charts

You can now enable totals in forecast visualizations. Use the Show Totals toggle in the upper right corner of the forecasting chart to view overall projected values alongside group-level projections.

Selected groupings now surfaced

When working within the forecasting engine, any selected groupings will now appear at the top of the filters list. This makes it faster to review and adjust grouped dimensions during forecasting setup.

Why it matters

These improvements help you interpret forecasts more clearly, reduce setup friction, and gain a high-level view of projected spend across key dimensions.

Updates to Ternary Reporting Engine - Totals and Groupings Filter

We’ve added new capabilities to the Ternary Reporting Engine to make dashboards and reports more informative and easier to navigate.

Show totals in bar charts

You can now display totals in bar charts for both Reports and Dashboards:

  • In Reports, use the ellipses menu next to the chart type on the left side of the screen to toggle Show Totals.

  • In Dashboards, use the Show Totals toggle in the upper right corner of the widget. Note: In charts where the bars are too narrow to render totals clearly, the Show Totals toggle will be disabled.

Selected groupings now surfaced

In the Report builder, any groupings you selected will now appear at the top of the filters list for quicker access and better organization.

Why it matters

These updates give you a clearer view of total values and group-level insights, helping you analyze your data more efficiently and make faster decisions.

Enhanced Timeframe Controls in Reporting

Ternary now supports time offsets in rolling reporting windows within the Ternary Reporting Engine. This enhancement enables more tailored analysis of past spending trends.

Select a rolling timeframe such as 30, 90, or 180 days, then shift the report’s start date by days or months to uncover historical patterns. These customized reports can be added to dashboards to show previous-month, 90-day, or quarterly spend.

Key benefits:

  • Improved historical analysis. Customize reporting windows to explore trends and patterns more effectively.
  • Deeper financial insight. Gain a clearer understanding of your financial data by slicing it across meaningful timeframes.

Introducing the Next Generation of Custom Labels - Now More Powerful and Flexible

Ternary Custom Labels let you create business-relevant labels for your cloud cost data using existing metadata such as cloud provider tags, labels, or other attributes. This allows your team to organize and analyze billing data in ways that reflect how your business operates.

What you can do with Ternary Custom Labels:

  • Map projects or accounts to cost centers, teams, or other business units
  • Assign labels that reflect environments, departments, or other categories relevant to finance or engineering
  • Filter and report on cloud costs using custom business dimensions not available in raw billing data

This adds meaningful context to your reports and dashboards, improving clarity and accountability across teams.

What’s new in the latest iteration of Ternary Custom Labels:

  • Create entirely new label dimensions from any existing metadata, including outputs of other custom labels
  • Choose from multiple setup methods, including pre-built templates, CSV uploads, or manual configuration
  • Use advanced matching tools like wildcard patterns and regular expressions directly in the UI
  • Combine multiple conditions and assign multiple output labels in a single rule for more efficient mapping
  • Benefit from faster processing, with most labels available in under an hour (often within minutes for smaller datasets)
  • Navigate a redesigned UI with a draft and publish workflow, making it easier for both technical and non-technical users to create and manage labels

Cost Allocation and Billing Rules Unified Engine

We are consolidating the existing Ternary Cost Allocation engine into the Ternary MSP Billing Rules Engine to simplify rule management and enable advanced functionality for all customer types. With this release, a single engine will support both direct customers and partners. Direct customers will gain access to billing actions (e.g., rerate, back out line item, etc.) that were previously available only to managed service providers (MSPs).

Update: 06/18/25 - now live!

Improved Reporting Experience - Data Source Icons

We’ve enhanced the Ternary Reporting Engine with intuitive data source icons in dropdown selectors to make report configuration faster and more user-friendly.

Our multi-cloud FOCUS dataset is now identified by a dual-cloud icon, making it easy to recognize data that spans multiple cloud providers. Additionally, data tied to a specific provider displays that provider’s icon, helping you quickly distinguish between different sources at a glance.

This visual enhancement streamlines report setup and improves clarity across multi-cloud environments.
