Support for Multi-Channel Slack Notifications in Anomaly Detection

Ternary now supports multi-channel Slack notifications, allowing you to send the same anomaly alert to multiple public Slack channels without duplicating configurations.

Why it matters

This enhancement improves visibility and reduces the overhead of managing separate alerts for different teams. By routing alerts to the right Slack channels, teams such as FinOps, Engineering, and Operations can stay informed and take action faster.

How to get started

First, configure the Slack integration from the Admin page. Once connected, go to the Anomaly Detection page to select which public Slack channels should receive alerts. You can assign multiple channels to a single alert to ensure that all relevant teams are notified.

Support for Databricks

Ternary now supports direct integration with Databricks, making it easy to ingest your Databricks usage and cost data into the Ternary Reporting Engine for unified reporting and analysis.

You can now view Databricks costs alongside your existing multi-cloud infrastructure and technology vendor spend, giving you a more complete view of your organization's usage and cost drivers.

Why it matters

This integration helps FinOps and engineering teams track Databricks consumption in the same place as cloud and SaaS data, reducing silos and improving visibility across environments.

How to get started

Visit our Databricks integration documentation for setup instructions and configuration guidance.

Support for Google Cloud Multiprice CUDs

Ternary now supports both legacy and Multiprice Committed Use Discount (CUD) models for Google Cloud.

Google’s new Multiprice CUD billing model introduces a shift from credit-based savings to a net pricing consumption model, along with updates to BigQuery export schemas, SKU identifiers, and Marketplace Procurement API flows.

Key dates

  • July 15, 2025: All new Google Cloud billing accounts default to the Multiprice CUD model. Existing accounts without active CUDs can opt in at any time.
  • January 21, 2026: Google will automatically migrate all remaining accounts to the Multiprice model.

Why it matters

With this support, Ternary ensures continuity in reporting and optimization workflows as Google transitions to its new CUD model. Customers can continue tracking commitment utilization and cost efficiency without disruption, regardless of which model their billing account is using.

Updates to Ternary Reports - New Controls

We’ve introduced several enhancements to improve how you interact with data in Ternary Reports. These updates make it easier to explore, filter, and display report results based on your workflow and preferences.

What’s new

  • Interactive table filters. You can now filter reports by clicking directly on table cells. Selecting a grouping value updates the chart and right-hand configuration panel, with support for multiple selections and clear visual feedback. This behavior also applies to dimension labels, chart segments, and legend items.
  • Comfortable and compact display modes. Switch between Comfortable (default) and Compact modes in data tables. Compact mode reduces row height and padding, allowing more rows to be visible on screen. The selected view persists across reports until changed.
  • Auto-run option for reports. Reports no longer auto-run by default when variable inputs change. You can now manually run a report using the Run button or enable auto-run in the UI for a more exploratory experience. Your preference is saved per report.

Updates to the Ternary Reporting Engine

Why it matters

These updates give users more control over how they interact with report data. Whether you're digging into specific values, scanning large datasets, or fine-tuning report inputs, the experience is now more responsive, customizable, and aligned with the way different teams work.

Update to Custom Labels - Multi-Select Match Values

Creating Ternary Custom Labels is now faster and more efficient. You can now select multiple Match Values at once when configuring rules, rather than adding each value individually.

Why it matters

This update streamlines the rule creation process for users working with multiple match conditions, helping reduce repetitive actions and making it easier to manage complex labeling logic.

Legacy Billing Reports to be Retired

With the full transition to FOCUS Billing, all Ternary data and reporting now come from this modern, unified pipeline. As a result, we are deprecating the legacy billing data source and the reports built on it.

Key dates

  • March 2, 2026: Ternary will stop importing data from the legacy billing pipeline. Reports using 'Billing' as the data source will no longer update, but will remain visible in your tenant.
  • July 31, 2026: All legacy billing reports will be permanently removed from the Ternary platform.

What you need to know

To continue tracking your cloud spend, we recommend migrating any reports still using the legacy 'Billing' source to the new FOCUS Billing data source.

Updates to Ternary Budgets

We’ve made key updates to budget management in Ternary, giving you more control and context when planning and tracking spend across your organization.

In October 2025, we introduced hierarchical budgets, which allow you to break down a total budget across multiple dimensions such as projects, teams, or services. These individual values automatically roll up into a parent budget.

With this latest release, we’ve expanded that functionality to give you even greater flexibility.

What’s new

  • Variable monthly budgets. Set different budget amounts for each month within a budget period. This helps account for seasonality, growth, or planned initiatives.
  • Percentage-based increases. Apply a consistent percentage increase to monthly budgets, making it easy to model expected growth or cost inflation over time.
  • Historical spend autofill. Pre-fill monthly budget values using your own historical usage data to save time and ground your plans in actual trends.
  • Spend trend preview. View historical spending patterns directly within the budget configuration form to guide monthly budget decisions.
  • Expanded dimension support. Budgets now support cloud provider-specific (non-FOCUS) dimensions,  enabling you to structure budgets around native billing attributes from AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

Why it matters

These enhancements give you more precision and insight when managing budgets. Whether you’re planning for upcoming changes, modeling seasonal fluctuations, or aligning with provider-specific reporting needs, Ternary now offers a more flexible and intuitive budgeting experience.

Introducing Bring Your Own Data Integration

We’re excited to announce that you can now import your own time-series cost or billing data into Ternary using our new Bring Your Own Data capability.

This feature allows you to import external data sources such as SaaS costs, data center spend, internal finance system outputs, revenue data, and more, and analyze them alongside your existing cloud integrations in a single, unified reporting experience.

How it works

Data can be ingested using one of the following methods:

  • A cloud storage bucket
  • A BigQuery table path

Once connected, your data will appear within the same dashboards, filters, and reporting views used for your native cloud spend.

Why it matters

This integration gives teams a broader view of organizational spend by combining cloud and non-cloud cost data in one place. It removes the need for disconnected spreadsheets or tools and helps finance, engineering, and operations teams align around a shared source of truth.

How to get started

To enable this feature, please contact Ternary Customer Success at success@ternary.app.

For comprehensive setup instructions and supported ingestion formats, view our documentation article.

New Chart Type - Variance Report

We’ve introduced a new Variance Report chart type in Ternary Reporting. This view helps you quickly understand how recent spend trends compare to historical averages for the same time range.

Whether you're viewing the last 30 days by day, the last 90 days by week, or a full quarter by month, the Variance Report can show you which services, business units, or other dimensions of your choosing are trending higher or lower than expected.

Why it matters

This report makes it easier to:

  • Spot emerging cost anomalies before they escalate
  • Confirm the impact of cost optimizations
  • Understand where and how spend patterns are shifting over time

You can use it to stay proactive and make faster, more informed decisions about cloud spend.

Updates to the Cost Reallocation Rules Workflow

We’ve made several updates to the Billing Rules Engine to improve the rule-building experience and help you validate cost reallocations both before and after execution.

What’s new

Guided step-by-step flow. Rule creation is now organized into a structured process with clear stages: Details, Type, Source, and Destination. This improves clarity and makes complex reallocations easier to configure correctly.

Ternary Billing Rules workflow

Preview in report during setup. While building a rule, you can now preview source data in a report view. This helps you validate filters, groupings, and assumptions before saving the rule.

View cost data as report

View impact after execution. Once a rule has been executed, you can view its impact directly in a report. This helps you understand how costs were reallocated and supports easier troubleshooting or refinement.

View reallocated cost data in a report

Improved reporting clarity. Reports now more clearly distinguish between reallocated and non-reallocated costs, helping improve transparency and trust in reporting results.

Completed cost reallocation example in Ternary

Why it matters

These updates improve discoverability, reduce setup errors, and give you better visibility into how your cost reallocation rules behave throughout their lifecycle. You can now validate logic during setup and easily analyze the impact of rules after they run.
