MSP Bill Splitting - Dimension-Based Account Selection

We’re introducing new controls that give MSPs more flexibility when configuring which Sub Accounts are assigned to each child tenant with shared billing.

What’s new

Dimension-based account selection. During integration setup, you can now select cloud Sub Accounts using billing hierarchy dimensions such as:

  • Sub Account ID or Name (Subscription, Project, Linked Account)
  • Billing Parent Groups, including Azure Invoice Sections or GCP Folders / Ancestry Paths

Automatic inclusion of new Sub Accounts. When a higher-level billing parent is selected, any new Sub Accounts added under that parent are automatically included in the corresponding tenant. This reduces the need for manual updates.

Why it matters

These enhancements help MSPs:

  • Align customer tenants with the native billing structure of their cloud environments
  • Reduce maintenance by automatically capturing account changes
  • Avoid unallocated or misallocated billing data across tenants
  • Maintain clean, scalable, and accurate billing configurations across a growing customer base

Update to Reporting - Time Granularity In Table Charts

We’ve added new time granularity controls to the table chart type in the Ternary Reporting Engine, giving you more flexibility in how data is displayed.

You can now change the time granularity in table charts to match your analysis needs. Choose from hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly views directly in the chart configuration.

Self-Serve Client Certificate Regeneration

Ternary now supports self-service certificate renewal directly within the platform, reducing manual effort and ensuring smoother certificate management.

On the Ternary Admin page, you can view the current certificate expiry date, with warnings provided as the expiration approaches. To renew, simply select the status button and update any data integrations upon successful completion of the renewal process.

Why it matters

This enhancement gives administrators more control over certificate management, reduces reliance on support intervention, and helps prevent unexpected disruptions by ensuring certificates are kept up to date.

Support for Municipal Fiscal Year Patterns

Ternary now supports municipal fiscal calendars, expanding beyond traditional 4-4-5 structures to better serve public sector organizations.

Previously, the platform offered fixed fiscal patterns commonly used by retail and financial services organizations. In response to feedback from our SLED (state and local government and education) customers, we’ve introduced a more flexible, date-driven fiscal year option.

What’s new

  • Fixed start date. Fiscal years can now begin on a specific calendar date (for example, July 1 of each year).
  • Calendar-aligned months. Fiscal months now follow standard calendar months, preserving their natural lengths of 28 to 31 days.
  • Standard weekly grouping. Weeks are grouped using the standard Sunday through Saturday format. Fiscal weeks are no longer required as a core reporting dimension.

Why it matters

This enhancement allows government and municipal users to configure fiscal calendars that reflect their actual reporting practices, supporting greater financial reporting accuracy.

Update to Budgets - Enhanced Filtering

We’re pleased to announce expanded controls for filtering and viewing budgets within Ternary.

What’s new

  • Custom date ranges for actuals. You can now define custom date ranges when viewing actuals against your budgets. This allows for more flexible analysis of current and forecasted spend over any selected timeframe.
  • Filter by budget amount. The budgets feature now includes filtering by budget amount, helping you quickly focus on specific cost thresholds or ranges that matter most to your workflows.

Why it matters

These updates make it easier to perform targeted analysis and better align budget insights with your financial review cadence.

Introducing Hierarchical Budgets

We’re excited to introduce hierarchical budgets in Ternary, giving you greater precision and control when managing cloud spend. In addition to recurring or variable monthly budgets, you can now break down a total budget into smaller, scoped amounts based on groupings.

How it works

  • Select a grouping. Choose one or more dimensions (such as ProviderName) to define how the budget will be segmented.
  • Change the budget type. Set the budget type to Hierarchical to begin configuring scoped allocations.
  • Assign budget amounts by scope. Enter individual budget amounts for each value within the selected grouping. For example, if you group by ProviderName, you can define separate budgets for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. The total of these values will represent your overall budget.

Key benefits

  • Tailored budgets by scope. Set independent budgets for distinct values, such as per cloud provider or per application, aligning with your specific FinOps needs.
  • Real-time insights. View actual and projected spend data for each individual line item, giving you immediate visibility into your financial performance.

Update to Forecasting - Filters

You can now apply filters to forecasts, similar to how you filter reports in the Ternary Reporting Engine. When filters are enabled, a right-hand panel will appear, allowing you to search for and select dimension values to narrow the scope of your forecast.

Key benefits

  • More precise forecasts. Focus your projections on specific dimensions for a clearer picture of spend drivers.
  • Improved scenario planning. Run what-if analyses across different segments of your cloud spend to support planning and budgeting discussions.
  • Faster decision-making. Surface more relevant forecast data with less manual filtering or post-processing outside the platform.

Updates to Custom Label Management

For users managing a large number of custom labels, we’ve implemented key enhancements to optimize performance and usability. These updates focus on two main areas: load balancing and pagination.

Load balancing for faster performance

The system now distributes incoming requests across multiple servers. This prevents any single server from becoming overloaded, especially when handling a high volume of custom labels. As a result, users can expect faster data retrieval, improved responsiveness, and consistent performance, even during periods of high demand or concurrent access.

Pagination for easier navigation

To streamline interaction with large label sets, we’ve introduced a robust pagination system. Instead of loading all custom labels at once, they are now presented in manageable pages. This approach improves initial load times and offers a smoother browsing experience. Users can easily navigate through pages using familiar controls like “next,” “previous,” or direct page selection. Pagination also simplifies search and selection tasks by reducing on-screen clutter.

Why it matters

Together, these improvements ensure that managing a high volume of custom labels remains fast, reliable, and intuitive.  We've optimized the experience for both speed and ease of use, regardless of whether you're reviewing hundreds or thousands of entries.

MSP Customer Management Settings - Inherit Metrics

Earlier this year, we introduced enhancements to MSP Customer Management Settings, giving partners greater control over how platform features are configured for their customers.

Key updates included:

  • The ability to customize settings on a per-tenant basis, instead of applying global defaults to all customers
  • Support for Custom Settings that automatically apply to all newly created child tenants

Today, we’re expanding those capabilities.

What’s new
MSPs can now:

  • Allow, disallow, or inherit metrics from cloud integrations
  • Allow child tenants to inherit rate and usage recommendations from their parent organization

Note: By default, metrics and recommendations are collected from the child tenant. By selecting inherit, the metrics and recommendations will be collected from the MSP parent.

Why it matters

These updates give MSPs greater flexibility to tailor platform behavior across their customer base while streamlining tenant setup and ensuring consistency where needed.

Updates to Forecasting - Totals and Groupings Filter

We’ve enhanced Ternary Forecasting to improve visibility and streamline filter interactions during forecast creation and analysis.

Show totals in forecasting charts

You can now enable totals in forecast visualizations. Use the Show Totals toggle in the upper right corner of the forecasting chart to view overall projected values alongside group-level projections.

Selected groupings now surfaced

When working within the forecasting engine, any selected groupings will now appear at the top of the filters list. This makes it faster to review and adjust grouped dimensions during forecasting setup.

Why it matters

These improvements help you interpret forecasts more clearly, reduce setup friction, and gain a high-level view of projected spend across key dimensions.
